Bio
Welcome!
I feel extremely lucky to have then been hired at Holy Angels. Since I live in Arcadia, I have spent my whole life driving by Holy Angels. I have attended Holy Angels Church when I’ve been between schools and parishes and I even spent my high school years attending the Fiesta. Now, I can proudly say that I am part of this great community.
As a product of 20 years of Catholic education, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher in Catholic Schools. I truly believe in a Catholic Education.
I love reading and I read every day! I have a reading goal to read 100 books this year and I’m on an over 1500 day reading streak and I cannot break it! When you see me - ask me what day I’m on and how many books I’ve read this year. Besides reading, I am a taxi driver for my 16 year old daughter who is an avid swimmer. I truly enjoy sitting by the pool watching my daughter swim her heart out. #futureolympianhopeful.
My Education and Professional Background
I earned a Bachelor of Arts, Diversified Liberal Arts from the University of San Diego and a Master of Education, Reading from the University of La Verne. I also have a Professional Clear Multiple Subject California Teaching Credential andReading Specialist Teaching Credential
I started my teaching career 25+ years ago as a second grade teacher at Saint Elizabeth Parish School in Altadena. I loved teaching second grade and did so for 10 years. After having my daughter, I moved to Saints Felicitas and Perpetua in San Marino, my alma mater, and spent 4 years as a Reading Specialist, Librarian and Vice Principal. Over the past 12 years, I had many different positions at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School in Pasadena. I was a Reading Specialist, I started a Transitional Kindergarten class and taught it for 3 years, I taught second grade for 3 years, and lastly, I was the fifth grade teacher for homeroom, Religion, ELA, and Social Studies as well as seventh grade ELA. In addition to teaching in elementary school, I cultivated my love of reading by being an Adjunct Professor for 10 years at the University of La Verne teaching two courses, Literature for Children & Adolescents and the Reality of Teaching.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that God has given everyone special gifts. Reading is one of those gifts. Reading is not just an academic skill; it is a gateway to imagination, empathy, and lifelong learning. In the seventh grade classroom, fostering a love for reading is essential because it shapes how students engage with the world and develop their critical thinking abilities. Every student is unique, with individual interests and passions. I hope to encourage my students to choose books that resonate with their personal interests and empower them to take ownership of their reading journey.
I hope that my enthusiasm for reading is contagious.
